Hi everyone!

My kids and me are learning a Christmas Carol: "Rudolph the red nosed reindeer".

Although it's hard for them to learn it, they are doing their best and I'm sure they'll be perfect in the Christmas recital.

Hi there!

As you all know, this week we're going to celebrate Halloween at school.

I'm already in a Halloween spirit, I've been wearing my witch costume and visiting different classrooms. Here you can see me with the infants.


There are a lot of things to do at Halloween. I like watching films about Halloween, like "The Corpse Bride" or "Nightmare before Christmas", making crafts with pumpinks, spiders, ghosts, witches....wearing masks, costumes...

Here you have a video of a film I like a lot "Nightmare before Christmas" This is one of the track of the BSO of this film.

¡Hola!

Como todos sabéis, esta semana vamos a celebrar Halloween en el colegio.

Yo ya siento el espíritu de Halloween en mí. He estado disfrazada de bruja por el colegio y visitando diferentes clases. Aquí podéis verme en una clase de infantil.


Hay un montón de cosas que hacer en Halloween. Me gusta ver películas como "La novia cadáver" o "Pesadilla antes de Navidad", hacer manualidades con calabazas, arañas, fantasmas, brujas, llevar máscaras, disfraces...

Aquí tenéis un vídeo de la película "Pesadilla antes de Navidad" Es una de las canciones de la banda sonora de esta película.

Bonfire Night

History

Four hundred years ago, in 1605, a man called Guy Fawkes and a group of plotters attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London with barrels of gunpowder placed in the basement. They wanted to kill King James and the king’s leaders.


Hace 400 años, en 1605, un hombre llamando Guy Fawkes y un grupo de conspiradores intentaron asaltar el Parlamento de Londres con barriles de pólvora situados en el sótano. Querían matar al rey James y a sus líderes.

Why did Guy Fawkes want to kill King James 1st and the king’s leaders?

¿Por qué quería Guy Fawkes matar al Rey James I y a sus líderes?

When Queen Elisabeth 1st took the throne of England she made some laws against the Roman Catholics. Guy Fawkes was one of a small group of Catholics who felt that the government was treating Roman Catholics unfairly. They hoped that King James 1st would change the laws, but he didn't.


Cuando la Reina Isabel I tomó el trono de Inglaterra hizo algunas leyes en contra de los católicos. Guy Fawkes fue uno del pequeño grupo de católicos existentes que sintieron que el gobierno los estaba tratando de forma injusta (en Inglaterra la iglesia predominante es la anglicana). Ellos esperaban que el Rey cambiara las leyes, pero no lo hizo.



Catholics had to practise their religion in secret. There were even fines for people who didn't attend the Protestant church on Sunday or on holy days. James lst passed more laws against the Catholics when he became king.

Los católicos tenían que practicar su religión en secreto. Habían incluso multas para las personas que no acudían a la iglesia Protestante los Domingos o los días festivos. James I aprobó más leyes contra los católicos cuando llegó a ser Rey.



What happened - the Gungpowder Plot

Lo que pasó. La conspiración.

A group of men led by Robert Catesby, plotted to kill King James and blow up the Houses of Parliament, the place where the laws that governed England were made.

Un grupo de hombres liderados por Robert Catesby, planearon matar al Rey James I y volar las casas del Parlamento, el lugar donde se elaboraban las leyes que regulaban el país.

The plot was simple - the next time Parliament was opened by King James l, they would blow up everyone there with gunpowder. The men bought a house next door to the parliament building. The house had a cellar which went under the parliament building. They planned to put gunpowder under the house and blow up parliament and the king.
El plan era fácil. La próxima vez que el Parlamento se abriera por el rey James I, volarían todo con pólvora. Los hombres compraron la casa que estaba junto al Parlamento. Esa casa tenía un sótano que se comunicaba con la parte baja del Parlamento. Planeaban poner pólvora bajo la casa, volar el Parlamento y matar Rey.

Guy Fawkes was given the job to keep watch over the barrels of gunpowder and to light the fuse. On the morning of 5th November, soldiers discovered Guy hidden in the cellar and arrested him.



Guy Fawkes fue el encargado de vigilar los barriles de pólvora y encender la mecha. La mañana del 5 de Noviembre, los soldados lo descubrieron escondido en el sótano y lo detuvieron.

He was tortured and questioned about the other plotters. To start with he didn't tell the soldiers anything about the plot. But, eventually he started to tell the truth.

A Celebration

In celebration of his survival, King James ordered that the people of England should have a great bonfire on the night on 5th November.

Para celebrar que salvó su vida, el Rey James ordenó que la gente de Inglaterra encendieran una gran hoguera la noche del 5 de Noviembre.

The event is still commemorated annually in England on 5th November by fireworks and burning guys (effigies) on bonfires.

El acontecimiento todavía se conmemora cada año en Inglaterra el 5 de Noviembre con una exhibición de fuegos artificiales y quemando pequeños muñecos que representan a Guy Fawkes en las hogueras.
